LEDs can directly convert electricity into light. It is currently being used in more and more vehicles, such as LED high and low beam lights, LED tail lights, LED headlight, high-level brake lights, daytime running lights, etc.
LED structure:
The heart of the LED is a semiconductor wafer. One end of the wafer is attached to a bracket, one end is the negative electrode, and the other end is connected to the positive electrode of the power supply, so that the entire chip is encapsulated by epoxy resin. A semiconductor wafer is composed of two parts, one is a P-type semiconductor, in which holes dominate, and the other is an N-type semiconductor, which is mainly electrons. When these two semiconductors are connected, a "P-N junction" is formed between them.
working principle:
When a current is applied to this chip through a wire, that is, a "PN junction", the electrons will be pushed to the P region, where the electrons and holes recombine, and then energy will be emitted in the form of photons. This is the LED light The principle. The wavelength of light, which is the color of light, is determined by the material that forms the P-N junction.
LED advantages:
1. Energy saving and low cost: LED has high luminous efficiency, which is nearly twice that of fluorescent lamps. If we use our daily energy-saving lamps as an example, energy-saving lamps save 4/5 of energy than incandescent lamps, and LEDs save 1/4 of energy-saving lamps. In cars, the same daytime running lights, LED elements consume only 1/20 of the energy of halogen lamps. The cost of LED components has also been greatly reduced year by year, and the current cost and price are still falling by more than 20% per year.
2. Extremely long life: At present, the LED components used in cars can basically reach the level of 50,000 hours, and the well-known automotive lighting suppliers have been able to provide LED components with a life of 100,000 hours, which is equivalent to 11 years ... In consideration of the frequency of use of the light, the LED components do not need to be replaced during the entire design life of the vehicle. In contrast, the life of a xenon lamp is only about 3000 hours ...
3. Good durability: The structure of the LED element is simple, the impact resistance and shock resistance are very good, it is not easily broken, and it can adapt to various environments.
4. LED components are small in size, compact and easy to lay out and design. This is a huge advantage of LEDs. This advantage fully meets the evolutionary needs of automotive manufacturers in design. It breaks the constraints of modeling innovation of lighting systems in the past. Let us have More creative automotive products.
5, fast response speed: LED only needs microsecond level, used in tail lights and turn lights can quickly light up to achieve a better warning effect, used in headlights, compared to xenon and halogen headlights have more High response speed guarantees better driving safety.
6, low brightness attenuation: LED brightness is high, light brightness attenuation is much lower than halogen lamps, suitable for lighting and brake lights, turn signals and other warning lights.
7, low-voltage direct current can be driven, small load, weak interference, low requirements for the use of the environment, good adaptability. Unlike xenon lamps, a booster (high voltage package) is also required.
