Although the unit price of LED bulbs is declining, it is basically the same as or lower than that of xenon lamps. But the cost is still higher than halogen lamps, because LED car lights are not as low as the requirements of daily lighting fixtures. If the OEM is equipped with LED lights, the requirements for LED lights are the same as for halogen lights. The first is stability and durability, light decay, and color temperature. Although LED bulbs are simple in principle, they have higher requirements for the driving circuit. And the consistency of LED chips, color temperature, luminous efficiency, light decay, and product quality of various manufacturers are also uneven. Although the appearance looks the same, the actual parameters are quite different. LED wants to work stably for a long time to maintain high efficiency output, then a high-quality drive power is indispensable. The power requirements are also very high: the first is the constant current function. The internal resistance of the LED is related to the temperature. The internal resistance is large at the initial stage of lighting. As the LED temperature rises as the lighting time increases, the internal resistance will gradually decrease. If a constant voltage power supply is used, then the LED working current will become higher and higher, eventually causing serious light decay and even burnout. This is one of the reasons why someone changes the LED, the brightness is getting lower and lower, and it has to be replaced in less than a year.
Therefore, the LED must be driven by constant current. In addition, the driving current also affects the performance of the LED. If the current is too small, the power cannot reach the nominal power and the brightness is low. Excessive current reduces LED life. The consistency of LED chips also determines the future performance of LED lights, which involves issues such as light decay and life. For example, take a pair of LED chips and develop a dedicated drive power supply. Both testing and aging are normal, but the product repair rate is very high after mass production. The reason for this is that the chip consistency is not good, and the internal consistency is very poor in all aspects of parameter consistency.
Therefore, the cost of qualified LED lights, LED lights that can be installed by the OEM is much higher than the LED lights purchased online. After all, although the halogen lamp is lower in brightness, there is no problem in life and stability, and the risk of installing low-cost LED car lights is much higher!
